Teaching and Learning at St Barnabas
At St Barnabas we strive for excellence in every lesson that we teach. Our lessons are active and enquiry based. The excellent teachers at St Barnabas ensure that there are clear routines and humour in every lesson so that all pupils are able to achieve their best.
The teachers at St Barnabas have worked together to create a Teaching and Learning Promise linked to the teaching standards which is used to help pupils set targets in line with the skills and attributes needed to be good learners.
The following documents are used to ensure high standards:
Assessment at St Barnabas
At St Barnabas we use a comprehensive mix of formative assessment through teacher judgements, supported by summative assessment through testing.
We use standardised tests from NfER to ensure that children are making progress against their year group objectives.
Children in Year 1 take part in the Phonics Screening Check in June every year.
Children in Year 2 and 6 take part in the SATs every May.
The results of these national tests are presented to parents in the end of year report.
